Curriculum.
The Apprenticeship is divided into three levels. Each period of apprenticeship is designed to be complete in itself and we anticipate that apprentices will wish to continue to develop their practice over two or more years. There are several facets to the learning outlined below.
|
Training through Transcripts
You will present transcripts of your practice which will be studied in detail by your apprenticers (David, Tom or Kay). In their study of your transcript, they will amend your transcript by adding alternative questions (questions that they themselves would ask,) into your transcript and then meet with you and your fellow apprentices for an hour over Zoom to teach you advanced counter-storying practices.
Level One
At level one you will work with a group of up to six fellow apprentices. There are monthly training through transcript meetings with the apprentices and David, Tom and Kay. Over the course of the year, you will participate in 10 transcript review sessions (two of these will be your own transcripts) . You will also participate in meetings with an assigned study partner to review each other's transcripts and talk about what you are learning together. In In the meetings we will study your transcripts and learn about the art of advanced questioning, contemporary narrative practices and innovations, and how your learning is showing up in your practice.
Level Two
In addition to monthly transcript review meetings, at level two you will meet once a month with your apprenticeship cohort to study contemporary narrative therapy ideas and practices and to discuss your learning and share ideas. These meetings will include a training session by Kay, Tom, or David and will include a discussion related to your own learning so far. Topics include: What is a good story in narrative therapy, Contemporary narrative practices and new inventions, counter-storying practices, narrative letter writing, 'teaching narrative therapy backwards' using stories from practice, and many more.
Level Three
While level three involves both individual transcript review and group meetings, the purpose of this level is to help apprentices move into the artistry of their own unique practice.
Story Sessions
Several times a year, the group will meet with Kay and Tom to study stories from practice. You will write your own map of the stories as a way of playing with inventing new ways of describing narrative practice and share and discuss the maps together.
04
Letter Sessions
At least once a year, you will write a narrative letter and submit it to the group. We will meet together to learn from each other’s letter writing.
05
End of Year Show
In February we will all meet together to celebrate your learning over the year. You will be asked to bring an ‘exhibit’ for the show, which tells the story of your learning. This could be a story, a letter, a reflection, or something else.
